Anika
Anika works alongside Paul Evans at the Valles geothermal plant.
Character and perspective
[edit | edit source]She is direct, technically exacting and willing to stop work when the evidence does not support continuing. Her relationship with Paul places professional trust beside the practical need to share responsibility.
In the book

[edit | edit source]On the plant floor
[edit | edit source]In the opening emergency, Anika distinguishes a vibration she can measure from a cause she still needs to inspect. Her willingness to say what she does not yet know is part of her competence. Paul relies on that practical judgment.
She offers a useful companion perspective to Hawksworth: both care about the plant, but field inspection and institutional reporting place different demands on the people doing them.
