Caitlyn Evans is John Evans’ mother and a Botanist Prime on Mars. John meets her at the agricultural lock before his departure for Earth.
Work and evidence
In Ring Four, the plants tell a different story from the controller’s clean report. Caitlyn asks John to investigate their timing and pressure behaviour. Her attention to living systems places observation ahead of administrative certainty.
Family
Caitlyn’s care for John is practical and direct. Their shared work, departure meal, and private conversation show the trust — and difficult responsibilities — within the family.
In the book
Introduced in Chapter One, “The Shape of an Mday”; central to Chapter Two, “The Work That Holds,” and Chapter Three, “The Last Ordinary Day.”
